Players at Reay have enjoyed an uninterrupted start to their winter golf season, with some mild weather and a course in good condition providing some excellent scoring conditions over the past month.
Taking the prize in the November Medal was Cammie Ross following a stunning nett 63. Ross has shown a welcome return to form during the autumn months after an indifferent summer, and his gross 72 was the best on a day where several low scores were recorded. Two players, youngster Greg McEwen and the ever-consistent Ian Ritchie, were a shot behind on 64, with Bill Budding and David Mackay, showing no ill effects from his recent 50th birthday party, a stroke further back on 65. On the day no less than 13 players carded nett scores under 70. Ritchie has also forged an early lead in the Donald Carmichael Trophy, awarded to the most consistent performer in the winter medals, with an aggregate score of 131 following his 67 in last months October Medal.
The race for the Winter League Stableford has also commenced with Leslie Malcolm leading the way after two rounds with an impressive tally of 85 points. Malcolm won round two of the Stableford outright with an excellent score of 41 points, beating Ritchie in to second place after his own fine round gave him 40 points. McEwen took third place on 39, finishing a point clear of Grant Maxwell on 38.
The recent Texas Pairs competition was claimed by club stalwarts Sandy Chisholm and Ian Sutherland who combined beautifully to record a nett score of 54.0. Alistair Gunn and George MacDonald took second place on 55.5, with the final podium place taken by the pairing of Ian Ross and John Disbury.
