Reay president Fred Groves has been in excellent form over the summer, and he retained his scratch trophy with something to spare following a tremendous gross 72. After a steady start to his round, a brace of birdies at the 6th and tough 7th holes helped him reach the turn in a magnificent 35. An inward half of 37 which included a further birdie at the 13th, was good enough to take the victory by a margin of 7 strokes from Ian Ritchie in second place.

Seniors Open
Last week the club hosted its
popular Seniors Open with players from all over the county and beyond competing
for glory.
The
race for glory in the handicap section was more keenly contested with countback
required to determine the victor. In the final analysis it was Andy Mackay who
prevailed after recording a fine nett 69. After an outward 40, Mackay played
his best golf during an inward half of 38 to record a gross total of 80.
Runner-up was Murdo Macdonald who also carded a nett 69. A fine outward half of
36 was followed by a disappointing inward 45 with an ugly 8 at the par 5 14th
doing most of the damage. The prize for nearest the pin at the pin at the 18th
went to Sandy Chisholm.
