January Update

Golfers at Reay have enjoyed some cold and breezy conditions over the past month, but this has not put players off, with several competitions attracting a healthy number of entrants.

Kenny Farmer put the rest of the field to the sword and won the December Medal by an impressive four shots with a blistering round of nett 66 in tough conditions. His fine performance did not escape the gaze of the Handicap Secretary, and as well as the silverware, Farmer earned a well-deserved handicap reduction for his efforts. Sandy Chisholm took second place on nett 70, with John O’Brien finishing a shot further back in third place.

Farmer continued his impressive form with another spectacular performance in the January Medal, this time posting a nett 65 in more favourable conditions. However on this occasion he had to settle for second place, behind Steve Efemey, who posted a round of nett 63 courtesy of a brilliant gross score of 71. Lee Malcolm took third place after his nett 66, with Lee Parnell and Stuart Grieg sharing fourth place a shot further behind.

The race for the Winter Eclectic is also heating up with the third and fourth rounds played recently. Euan Munro and Lee Malcolm topped the standings in round three after both posted scores of nett 71, with round four claimed by Simon Harper with an excellent nett 68. In the overall Eclectic standings Harper leads the way with an aggregate score of 64.37, with Parnell a close second on 64.50, Ian Ritchie currently occupies third spot on 65.62, with Efemey fourth on 66.00. With two rounds remaining the rest of the chasing pack will have their work cut out to catch the leaders.

In the Winter League Stableford, John Nicolson leads the way after nine rounds with an aggregate score of 146 from his best four scores. Liam Bremner occupies second place on 142, with Sandy Chisholm and Cammie Ross both in the hunt on 138.
