Winter Eclectic Results + WLS 13

The sixth and final round of the Winter Eclectic at Reay was played in very testing conditions. Kenny Farmer, who has enjoyed an excellent winter season, carded the best score of the day courtesy of his nett 74. However, the overall prize went to Lee Parnell, who has enjoyed his fair share of success in the Eclectic in recent years. His superb final nett aggregate score of 61.50 courtesy of a gross total of 63 was good enough to seal victory from his nearest challenger, Simon Harper, by a margin of less than one stroke. Harper, who had led the Eclectic standings at the half-way point, finished on a very creditable score of 62.37.

The evergreen Ian Ritchie took third place on 64.62, with Fred Groves fourth on 65.62. Another Eclectic specialist, Andy Bain, took fifth spot on 66.00.

Kenny Farmer also topped the standings in round 13 of the Winter League Stableford, with a brilliant score of 41 points in breezy conditions. Colin Munro took second place with a haul of 40 points, with John O’Brien third on 38.

Mid-March Update

The March Medal at Reay was played in calm and bright conditions, and several excellent scores were posted as players took advantage of the fine spring weather. Winner of the silverware by a single shot was Robbie Swanson after he carded a superb nett score of 63 courtesy of a round of 83. After an outward half of 42, Swanson produced a steady back nine of 41 which included a crucial birdie at the final hole to seal the victory. The unfortunate runner-up after a nett 64 was Stuart Grieg, who at least had the consolation of recording the best gross score of the day with his 74. A brace of birdies at the 8th and 12th holes provided the highlights of his round. Alex Mackay and Andy Bain shared third place after both carded rounds of nett 67, with Lee Sutherland finishing a further shot behind.

Good scores were much harder to come by in Round 5 of the Winter Eclectic which was played in wet and windy conditions. Evan Sutherland finished at the top of the standings on countback courtesy of his round of nett 74. John Nicolson finished second after he also posted a score of nett 74, with Fred Groves claiming third spot with his round of nett 75.

In the overall Eclectic Standings, Simon Harper remains in pole position with an aggregate score of 64.37. Lee Parnell lies in second place on 64.50, with Fred Groves third on 65.37. With one round remaining there are still several players handily placed who could make an impression on the leaders.

Round 12 of the Winter League Stableford was won by Danny O’Hagan with an excellent tally of 37 points. John Nicolson, Alistair Gunn and Steve Efemey shared the runners-up spot on 36. In the overall standings, John Nicolson retains a narrow lead of two points on an aggregate score of 219, with Sandy Chisholm and Liam Bremner handily placed on 217 should the leader slip-up.

Mid February Update

Golfers competing in the February Medal at Reay had to contend with a stiff breeze and some squally showers, and the trying conditions meant less than half of the entrants managed to return scores.

The weather was no obstacle to youngster Lee Malcolm who showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels to win by a margin of two strokes following a fine nett 69, courtesy of a gross score of 81. Colin Munro finished in second place after carding a nett 71. Munro had the consolation of carding the lowest gross tally of the day with his score of 79. Billy Moore took third place with his score of nett 73.

The race for glory in the Winter League Stableford is nearing its conclusion with the 10th and 11th rounds played recently. John Nicolson finished at the top of the pile in the 10th round after recording an excellent score of 37 points. Three players, Ian Ross, Lee Sutherland and Simon Harper, finished in second place on 36 points, with Sandy Chisholm finishing a point further adrift on 35.

Liam Bremner posted a superb tally of 40 points to win the 11th round by a margin of 2 points from the in-form Chisholm. Kenny Farmer, who has also enjoyed a successful winter to date, claimed third place on 37 points, with Robbie Swanson fourth on 36 points.

In the overall Winter League Stableford standings, John Nicolson retains a slender lead with an aggregate score of 218 from his best 6 rounds. Sandy Chisholm lies in second place on 217, with Liam Bremner third on 211 and Kenny Farmer fourth on 210.

January Update

Golfers at Reay have enjoyed some cold and breezy conditions over the past month, but this has not put players off, with several competitions attracting a healthy number of entrants.

Kenny Farmer put the rest of the field to the sword and won the December Medal by an impressive four shots with a blistering round of nett 66 in tough conditions. His fine performance did not escape the gaze of the Handicap Secretary, and as well as the silverware, Farmer earned a well-deserved handicap reduction for his efforts. Sandy Chisholm took second place on nett 70, with John O’Brien finishing a shot further back in third place.

Farmer continued his impressive form with another spectacular performance in the January Medal, this time posting a nett 65 in more favourable conditions. However on this occasion he had to settle for second place, behind Steve Efemey, who posted a round of nett 63 courtesy of a brilliant gross score of 71. Lee Malcolm took third place after his nett 66, with Lee Parnell and Stuart Grieg sharing fourth place a shot further behind.

The race for the Winter Eclectic is also heating up with the third and fourth rounds played recently. Euan Munro and Lee Malcolm topped the standings in round three after both posted scores of nett 71, with round four claimed by Simon Harper with an excellent nett 68. In the overall Eclectic standings Harper leads the way with an aggregate score of 64.37, with Parnell a close second on 64.50, Ian Ritchie currently occupies third spot on 65.62, with Efemey fourth on 66.00. With two rounds remaining the rest of the chasing pack will have their work cut out to catch the leaders.

In the Winter League Stableford, John Nicolson leads the way after nine rounds with an aggregate score of 146 from his best four scores. Liam Bremner occupies second place on 142, with Sandy Chisholm and Cammie Ross both in the hunt on 138.

November Update

The Winter League Stableford competition has taken centre stage at Reay Golf Club during the past two weekends, with players competing in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds of the event.

John Nicolson won round four with a fine haul of 37 points in showery conditions. A poor start was soon forgotten and after a fine birdie at the 5th he reached the turn in 40. A second birdie at the 10th, set up a storming inward half of 36, which was good enough to seal the victory by a single point. Cammie Ross was the man edged in to second place on 36 points after a steady round of 76 which was made up of halves of 39 and 37. Colin Munro finished in third place on 35 points after his round of 78 which included a single birdie at the 6th.

Round five was a high scoring affair in calm conditions, with Liam Bremner topping the leaderboard with a superb haul of 40 points. Cammie Ross once again had to settle for second place two points behind on 38, with John Nicolson sharing third place on 36 points with Sandy Chisholm.

Despite some nasty showers, some excellent scores were returned in round six, with Simon Harper finishing on top of the pile with a score of 39 points. The highlight of a very steady round of 73 was a birdie at the short 9th hole. Kenny Farmer took second place on 37 points, with club champion Lee Parnell taking third place on 36 points following an excellent round of 73 which included a brace of birdies at the 3rd and 14th holes.

In the overall standings Liam Bremner leads the way on a total of 112 from his three best scores. John Nicolson occupies second place on 110, closely followed by Cammie Ross on 108 and Sandy Chisholm on 107.

October Update

The October Medal at Reay was an extremely keenly contested affair, with no less than five players tied at the top of the leaderboard after recording nett scores of 68. Following detailed computer analysis, which would have NASA scientists scratching their heads, Cammie Ross was declared the winner following his gross 75.

After a double-bogey at the first, Ross soon found his form and reached the turn in 40. He sealed the victory with a storming inward half of level par 35, which included two crucial birdies at the 13th and 18th holes.

The runner-up spot was claimed by Ian Ritchie, after he carded a fine gross score of 77. Following an outward half of 40, he also did his best work on the back nine covering them in a mere 37 strokes, with a birdie at the 14th the highlight of his round.

Ian Sutherland took third place following his round of 88. He recovered from a shaky start to reach the turn in 45, and played his best golf over the last five holes to card an inward half of 43.

Wayne Mowat had the distinction of carding the lowest gross score of the day, in the shape of a fine 74, but his efforts were still only good enough for fourth place. His matching halves of 37 included a solitary birdie at the 12th hole.

Martin Bain was the man in fifth place, after he carded a round of 81 for his nett 68. He covered the back nine in 42 following a fine outward half of 39 which included an excellent birdie at the 9th hole.

Ian A. Mackay finished a shot behind the winner following his nett 70, with Stuart Grieg and Ross Mackay the next best placed players courtesy of their rounds of 71.
