The first round of the Winter Eclectic was played in
beautiful autumn sunshine, with a number of great scores recorded in the
favourable conditions. Richard McDonald began the defence of his trophy in
spectacular style with a gross 70 giving him a nett score of 62. Halves of 36
and 34 included birdies at the 7th and 13th holes. Taking second place was Andy
Mackay with a tremendous round of nett 64, with two birdies at the 3rd and 15th
holes the highlights of his round. Alan Paul took third place after a nett 67,
with three players, David Dunbar, Ian Ritchie and Graeme Dunnett a shot further
back after they all carded nett 68s.
