October Medal
A small field of players
contested the October Medal in dull and blustery conditions, with all players struggling
to break par. In the final analysis it was Ian Sutherland who pipped Cammie
Ross to the victory after both recorded scores of nett 71. After an excellent 3
at the tricky first hole, Sutherland endured a few shaky holes to reach the
turn in 47. However an impressive inward 43 which included pars at the final
two holes was good enough to take the silverware. Despite finishing as
runner-up Ross had the distinction of carding the lowest gross score of the
day, a fine 78. An outward half of 41 was blighted by an ugly 7 at the 3rd
hole, but he came roaring back in 37 with seven pars and only two bogeys making
up his card. Ian Ritchie took third place with a nett 73, with Donald Mowat
taking fourth place with a 74.
