Winter Eclectic 5 & WLS 8

Groves finds the Groove!
Saturday brought clear skies and cool temperatures but this did not deter the players at Reay who were out in force to compete in round 5 of the Winter Eclectic.

Taking the spoils on the day with a nett 65 was club president Fred Groves who has found his groove again after an indifferent winter season to date. Groves is well known for his wizardry around the greens and this was in evidence following a spectacular outward half of 33 which included birdies at the 3rd and 6th holes. A freshening wind made life a little more difficult on the inward 9, but he still managed to cover the half in 39 to give him a gross 72, the lowest of the day.

Joke of the Week - Laffs Guaranteed

Having both N/R'd in the Seniors Open Betty and Agnes are standing outside the Clubhouse, having a smoke, when it starts to rain. Betty reaches into her pocket and pulls out a condom, cuts off the end, puts it over her cigarette, and continues smoking.

O Macaco's World Matchplay Update

Right sportsfans - couldn't find a frog to lick so I had to settle for a sook on one of bertie's liquorice allsorts!  And the result is a mixed bag of wee first round bets for your consideration...

Winter Eclectic Round 4

Saturday saw six brave souls take to the fairways in Arctic conditions to compete in the fourth round of the Winter Eclectic at Reay. The early morning blue skies and bright conditions lulled players in to a false sense of security and soon gave way to a series of squally snow showers which made good scoring tricky.

The Punt - O Macaco's Golfing Gamble 3

Last Week...
And the Oscar nominations in the category of "most disappointing performance by something French".....my insipid green Peugeot 407 wobbling up and down the A9 like a badly set blancmange.........French referee Romain Poite disallowing a Scottish try without going to video replay...........JB Gonnett for his pitiful performance in Dubai...oh hang on JP DQ'd on a technicality - he never made it to the weekend!!!!!

February Medal

The recent February Medal at Reay golf club was played in mainly dry and bright conditions with players hampered slightly by a tricky breeze.  Showing some mercurial form to take the top spot was Donald Mowat with a fine round of nett 66.

The Punt - O'Macaco's Golfing Gamble 2

Last week:
Mixed fortunes for O Macaco's men last week: In Qatar peter Hanson managed to hang on to a top 5 place for a solid each way return on investment.  Taking the laurels on the European Tour was the dourest of the dour - Paul "I won The Open and nobody gives me the credit I deserve" Lawrie.

Prize Giving - for the 2010/11 season winners

Heavy rain onto frozen ground led to the much anticipated Texas Scramble being cancelled, but that did not dampen the spirits of those who had trophies to collect.

A last minute round-up of members, led to a very well attended 'prize giving lunch' and judging by the photographs, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

A big thanks to Fred for organising (and re-organising!) the event, to all the Ladies who helped in the kichen and to all the members who provided such a wonderful lunch.

Ask The Pro

Our touring professional TJ Monkey II has been inundated with questions from some local golfers, so he's taken some time out from his busy schedule to give us some answers.

He's also promised to make this a regular feature, so if you have anything to ask the pro, please use the comments section at the bottom of the page.

The Punt - O Macaco's Golfing Gamble

Europe
This week sees the Euro Tour in the middle of the desert swing.  An uncharacteristicly tame finish in Abu Dhabi last week saw Scandinavian sun lover Peter Hanson fall out of contention, but O Macaco can see world number 46 going the distance this week in Qatar and at 33-1 with many bookies, its got to be worth a few bananas of anyones bunch!

USA
Across the pond our american cousins are in a swing of their own - west coast styly.  After a run of relatively unknown winners lately, O Macaco's crystal ball tells him that it's time for one of the established names to take to the winners enclosure again.  After struggling with injury through last season, may I re-introduce you to South African green jacket owner Trevor Immelman.  Can he hold his nerve through the 16th at Phoenix?  Got to be worth an each way punt at lots-1.
