The recent February Medal at Reay golf club was played in
mainly dry and bright conditions with players hampered slightly by a tricky
breeze. Showing some mercurial form to
take the top spot was Donald Mowat with a fine round of nett 66.
Mowat also
took the honour of recording the lowest gross score of the day, 73. His front
nine of 37 was made up of six pars and three bogeys, and his round really came
to life on the back nine with birdies at the 11th and 12th holes. A steady run
of holes to the 18th gave him an excellent inward half of 36 which was enough
to see him win by a single shot.
Taking second place following a nett 67 was Steve Efemey.
Efemey has recently relinquished the role of handicap secretary and his
successor may be taking a close look at his handicap of 9 following an
impressive round. His gross score of 76 was made up of two halves of 38, with
the highlights being birdies at 6th and 15th holes.
In third place a further stroke back on nett 68 was Gavin
Gunn. After an untidy start Gunn got his round going with a birdie 3 at the
tricky 3rd hole. After reaching the turn in 41, he continued to play some
excellent golf for an inward half of 37 which included a birdie 2 on the final
green.
