Captain vs Vice Captain

The Captain's team win 4-3 to take the trophy for the first time in 4 years

Saturday saw golfers at Reay gather for the eagerly anticipated Captain versus Vice-Captain Match which traditionally marks the start of the summer season.
Despite the blustery wind and cool conditions, twenty-eight players donned their waterproofs to do battle on the links. Newly appointed Greens Convenor Grant Maxwell has been a busy man along with Greenkeeper Jimmy Macadie over the past few weeks, and competitors were pleased to note that swathes of rough have been chopped from the course.
The format of the match saw players arranged in to pairs representing either Captain Graeme Dunnet or Vice –Captain Grant Coghill, and playing four-ball better-ball ties against their foes. In the top match a devastating putting display by Dunnett saw him and partner Colin Munro see off the challenge of Coghill and Alex Anderson by a margin of 3&2.
In a battle of the veterans, Sandy Chisholm and Kenny Farmer secured a further point for the Captain’s side with an impressive win over Ian Sutherland and Murdo Macdonald. However, the Vice-Captain’s charges soon fought back courtesy of victories for Ian Ritchie and John Disbury, who edged out Willie Allan and Bob Earnshaw, and from the in-form Richard McDonald and Hugh Millar who overcame the dogged resistance of Murray McGlasson and the evergreen Keith Buxton.
Steve Efemey and David Mackay were always in control of their tie against Lee Parnell and John Maclean to secure a further point for the Captain’s team, and when Evan Sutherland and Donald Mowat recorded a win against Andy Bain and George Macdonald, Dunnett’s side moved in to an unassailable 4-2 lead.
The final match to finish provided some consolation for Vice-Captain Coghill with Alex Mackay and Stuart Grieg defeating Ian A Mackay and Tim Hawes on the final green.

The first shot of the 2012 Season!
