On Sunday players were competing in the Rotary Club Open, a
stableford competition. Countback was required in Category One after no less
than four players topped the leaderboard on 36 points. In the final analysis it
was Lee Parnell of the home club who enjoyed a welcome return to the winners’
enclosure following a fine round of 74. After an indifferent start he covered
the back nine in level par with a birdie at the 14th hole the highlight of his
round. Pat Valentine of Thurso took second place after a steady round of 79
which included a solitary birdie at the 6th hole. Alistair Gunn took third
place with a steady round of 79. James Hawes finished fourth after his round of
80 which included birdies at the 4th and 6th holes.
Category Two was won by Lee Malcolm after he amassed an
excellent tally of 38 points, with a birdie at the 6th hole the highlight of
his round. David Irvine took second place on 37 points with his solitary birdie
coming at the final hole. Willie Allan took third place on 35 points, edging
Tim Hawes in to fourth place on countback after he also finished on 35 points.
In the Ladies event Su Hawes finished at the top of the
leaderboard after carding an impressive 33 points. Angela Williamson took
second place on countback from Alison Ross after both accumulated 26 points.
