Those who played in the May Medal on Saturday could have
been forgiven for thinking it was still January, with a biting wind and
frequent wintry showers making good scores hard to come by. The tough
conditions were reflected in the CSS which rose to 72.
In Category One it was David Mackay who deservedly triumphed
after recording an excellent score of nett 69. His gross score of 79 gave him
the distinction of being one of only two players in the field to break 80, and
it earned him a well-deserved handicap reduction. Cammie Ross was the only
other player to post a score in the 70s, and his best of the day gross 78 was
good enough to take a distant second place on nett 72. Three players, Alistair
Gunn, Evan Sutherland and Colin Munro finished a further shot back after
carding nett 73s.
Category Two was a closely fought affair with countback
required to determine the winner. Danny O’Hagan pipped Tim Hawes to the
silverware after both carded rounds of nett 73. Jock Eunson took third place on
nett 75, with Willie Williamson fourth following his 78.
