The gents Scratch final saw Lee Parnell take on Cammie Ross, both of whom have had impressive seasons on the course to date. Parnell, losing finalist last year, is known for his swashbuckling style of play, but on this occasion he produced some steady golf to forge in to a lead of 2up after 3 holes. A birdie at the 7th allowed Parnell to stretch his lead to 3up, but Ross struck back to win the 9th. A blistering start to the back nine saw Parnell win the 10th and 11th holes, before making a decisive birdie at the 12th to go 5up. Parnell closed the match out with a par at the 13th to win by a margin of 6&5.
In the gents Handicap final, Andy Bain was looking to retain the Beinn Ratha Salver against youngster Euan Munro. Munro was the first to settle winning the 2nd, but Bain struck back with a par at the 4th to tie the match. Bain forged 2up after wins at the 7th and 8th, and struck a further blow to win the 11th to go 3up. Munro rallied and a spectacular birdie at the 13th reduced the arrears to 2down. However, after the 14th was halved, Bain turned up the heat to win the 15th with a par, and he struck the winning blow with a birdie at the 16th to win by 4&2.
The Seniors final was a very keenly contested affair between Bob Earnshaw and Sandy Chisholm. Earnshaw took an early lead after winning the 3rd, but Chisholm bounced back to win the 5th, 7th and 10th to go 2up. Back to back wins at the 14th and 15th saw Earnshaw square the match once more, before the 16th was halved. An errant tee shot by Chisholm at the 17th cost him the hole, and Earnshaw was able to close out the match with a halve at the 18th to finish 1up.
In the ladies Scratch final, Pam Bain triumphed against Carole Cameron with a superb display. Bain raced to a lead of 5up after 6 holes, but Cameron fought back to win the 8th and 9th to reduce the deficit to 3. After halving the 10th, Bain turned up the heat again to win the 11th and 12th holes, Cameron won the 13th to give her renewed hope, but this was extinguished as Bain took the 14th to win by a margin of 5&4.
In another closely fought contest Alison Ross secured victory in the ladies Handicap final with an excellent win over Ruth Shallcross. After reaching the turn all square, Shallcross won the 10th to go 1up. Ross fought back to square the match at the 11th, before embarking on an excellent run of play which saw her win the 13th and 15th holes to go 2up. Ross then delivered the knockout blow at the 16th to close out the match by a margin of 3&2.
Here's a commentary of the scratch final that should have been live on Friday night...
1st hole halved
Parnell produces a Mickleson-esk 'flob' and bags a par at the second to go 1 up.
A deep salad concession at the 3rd and Parnell doubles his advantage.
Gerat up-and-down from 50 yards and Cam gets a half at 4.
The touch of 3-Jabs by both players to half the 5th with bogey.
Scruffy 5's at the 6th. This game is nip and tuck.
a birdie at Reay's signature 7th puts LP 3 up.
Pars at 8.
Cammies par at 9 takes the hole to go back to 2 down at the turn.
Back-to-back solid pars at 10 and 11 and LP moves to 4 up.
A well timed birdie at 12 for LP moves the lead to 5 up.
And it's all over as another Steady par is enough to take this years club championship 6 and 5. It's off to the club house for refreshments!
